Course for Parents
This parenting course might be useful for those who have not had any experience regarding care of a child, had negative experiences from their own childhood and want to change that for their child, and those who literally struggle with their children right now. For those who have difficulties setting limits and those who tend to be too strict and cannot create a positive relationship with their child.
Parents getting parenting skills help children develop self-discipline and problem-solving skills, become more responsible and cooperative, have greater respect for themselves and others. The teachings are filled with non-punitive and non-permissive methods that will build relationships and keep the lines of communication open. It allows parents and caregivers to go through the process of changing how they look at misbehavior and their role as parents.
When designing the course, I draw from the practical Positive Discipline approach, Faber and Mazlish wisdom on how to talk with children, and my extensive training and experience as a clinical psychologist.
This course is designed for families with children up to the age of 12.
These are the topics that are covered during the course:
1. Listen (what do you want for your children, curiosity questions)
2. Connection (be kind and firm, brain in the palm of the hand, connection before correction, how to deal with big emotions)
3. Belief behind (children’s) behavior (mistaken goal chart)
4. Questions/Answers
5. When children misbehave (a misbehaving child is a discouraged child; natural and logical consequences, focusing on solutions, problem solving, family meetings, routine charts)
6. Praise versus encouragement
7. How parents may contribute to mistaken goal behavior (your childhood decisions)
